The voice of Black Women
Amplifying Black women’s voices to create safer public spaces
How might we amplify the voices of Black women to create safer, more inclusive public spaces?
We used our co-creative approach to facilitate a safe space for dialogue with Black women in Amsterdam about what they experienced within public spaces, what their key needs were and what they recommended as solutions.
This work was the first ever participatory research into the experiences of Black women with public safety in Amsterdam.
All recommendations to the City of Amsterdam originated from and were validated by the target group themselves.
- Participants felt included in shaping solutions to challenges faced by Black women in Amsterdam’s public spaces
- The City of Amsterdam prioritised inclusion of Black women’s experiences in their agenda to make public spaces safer – for everyone
