Let’s Talk Safety!
Creating safe spaces for asylum seekers

How might we create Asylum Seeker Centers (AZCs) where people feel safe and included in the Netherlands?
We used co-creation based on the principles of design thinking to facilitate a safe space for dialogue with (former) asylum-seekers about what they experienced within AZCs, what their key needs were and what they recommended as solutions.
We created a policy brief based on the outcomes of the participatory reflection and insights gathering process.

Impact
Our policy brief was shared with Dutch decision- and policymakers and transformed into a blog post that was widely circulated and created the foundation for more meaningful inclusion of asylum seekers and refugees in defining and creating safer public spaces.

What people say about us
"My experience with Fairspace was satisfying for many reasons. The most important was their willingness to listen to our individual experiences. An inclusive and intersectional approach is the key to improving safety in asylum seekers' centers (AZCs) in the Netherlands."
